We are going to work on writing a research paper, Industry Analysis Essay. Before diving into the main assignment, we spent time covering the standards for academic writing, APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines. These guidelines are crucial as they ensure clarity, uniformity, and consistency in academic writing.
We also learned about the three types of sources that are commonly used in research:
- Primary sources: These include scholarly articles, audio/video recordings, published books, and newspapers.
- Secondary sources: These consist of materials that analyze, interpret, or discuss information presented in primary sources, such as journal articles and periodical literature.
- Tertiary sources: These are consolidations of primary and secondary sources, such as Wikipedia and reference books. It is important to note that tertiary sources should NOT be used in academic writing, as they are not considered reliable for scholarly research.
One of the key aspects we discussed is the importance of citing sources correctly in the text and providing a proper reference list. Proper citation is essential not only to give credit to the original authors but also to lend credibility to our own work. There are different ways to cite sources, depending on the type of material and where it is sourced from.
